Hoist only to be used to move loads. Any operation above persons during moving and also in static position is strictly forbidden. After moving loads these must be secured by a secondary safety component and the hoist chain itself must be relieved from the load. See also British Standard BS 7906-1 Category B. BGV-D8 plus
Hoist being able to hold loads above persons after being in a static position (without any load movement) without using a secondary safety component.

BGV-C1
Hoist being able to hold loads above persons during movement of the load without using a secondary safety component. They allow the stage assembly and disassembly in set up and the use over audiences. No secondary suspension such as load arresters or safety steels are needed.

These are German regulation. They are not officially approved in the UK and the US. Hoists to BS 7906 Part 1 2005, Category A: For lifting loads above people for performance, broadcast and similar applications, British Standard. Category A Hoists are declared for use by the entertainment industry for lifting and suspending loads over people and meeting the requirements of BS 7905-1 or DIN 56925. Category A hoists are suitable for lifting or suspending loads above people without additional safety measures.
